Azerbaijan is aiming to prevent cultural heritage from being exposed to climate change, the Deputy Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan, Saadat Yusifova, said at the panel session themed “Safeguarding our past and future: Cultural heritage in the face of climate change” held on the sidelines of the 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku Thursday, Report informs.
According to her, cultural heritage has always been a part of the environment and has been affected by it: “Today, the processes manifest themselves more in the background of climate changes. In this regard, we need to introduce an interdisciplinary approach. Here, the role of the state and society is undeniable. Azerbaijan is consistently trying to prevent cultural heritage from being exposed to climate change. Today, we are trying to increase green zones. It is aimed at fulfilling obligations at the global level as a whole. By 2030, Azerbaijan has undertaken to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 35 percent. The fact that COP29 will be held in Baku indicates the trust shown by the international community to Azerbaijan.”
