In October, Baku will host an exhibition of the Latvian textile artist Julijs Straume, who has lived and worked in the South Caucasus for a long time, Report informs referring to the Embassy of Latvia in Azerbaijan.
Julijs Straume lived in the Caucasus, including Azerbaijan, at the beginning of the last century for about 16 years. He taught applied arts in Shusha. There he made sketches of the patterns of Karabakh carpets and studied all the subtleties of carpet weaving and the specifics of the ornaments characteristic of carpets from this region of Azerbaijan. These ornaments are preserved in his catalogs.
The embassy also reported that on July 29, the 5th international art festival “Two Julys” begins in the city of Gulbene (Latvia), in which Vija Busa, Charge d'Affaires of Latvia in Azerbaijan, takes part. The Embassy of Latvia supported an exhibition of textiles and paintings by the Honored Artist of Latvia Inna Kostina at the Museum of Culture in Gulbene, which, among other things, presents Azerbaijani “kelagai” kerchiefs from her personal collection.
Representative of the National Carpet Museum of Azerbaijan Firanaz Musayeva also takes part in the conference, which takes place within the festival.
