Zambian MP: Countries causing climate change in Africa must pay compensation

Countries that colonized Africa and caused suffering of local people and climate change must pay compensation, Zambian MP Christopher Kalila said during the event on "Solidarity for a Colonial-Free and Green Future" held within the framework of COP29.

According to Report, he noted that peoples who suffered from colonization should stand in solidarity:

"We believe in democracy and the rule of law. That's why we call for a world free from colonialism. These calls are particularly directed at multinational corporations coming to invest in Africa's mining sector. We want them to strictly comply with laws and operate without causing land degradation and pollution. These companies and countries should pay compensation to people in areas where they pollute the environment and practice colonialism."
