Yalchin Rafiyev: COP29 Presidency and SIDS adopt Baku Declaration

Azerbaijan, as the chair of COP29, and the Government of Samoa, as the chair of the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Alliance, have adopted the Baku Declaration to strengthen their voices for the sustainable future of developing small island states following the outcomes of this summit, COP29's Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev said at the Summit of Small Island Developing States held on the sidelines of COP29 Wednesday, Report informs.

"The Baku Declaration urges the international community to strengthen support for SIDS countries' efforts to combat the negative effects of climate change. On behalf of the COP29 Presidency, I assure you that you can count on our full support. This year's conference is not just about talks, but also about action," Rafiyev stated.

Yalchin Rafiyev declared that small island states can fully rely on the support that will be provided.

According to him, the COP29 team should work to launch the fund's activities:

"We have a great responsibility ahead of us for the next decade. Maintaining the temperature rise at 1.5 C is very important for small island states. Besides, the pace of measures to be taken is also very important."

The lead negotiator emphasized that they will continuously support small island states in implementing sustainable development goals within the framework of COP29.
