TRANSCO CEO: UNEZA's 2030 net zero goal is not just desire, but necessity

The net-zero target set by the Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (UNEZA) for 2030 is not merely a desire but a crucial necessity, said Afif Saif Al Yafei, CEO of the United Arab Emirates' TRANSCO (Abu Dhabi Transmission & Despatch Company), Report informs.

Speaking at the Chief Executive Officers' event on utilities during COP29, Al Yafei emphasized that this goal is based on concrete, achievable steps.

"We must prioritize investments in these areas to make clean energy accessible to all regions of the world," he stated. "The Networks and Storage Commitment, supported by UNEZA, aims to increase global energy storage capacity 6-fold to 1,500 gigawatts by 2030, aligning with the projections of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)."

Furthermore, Al Yafei highlighted the ambitious targets of adding 25 million kilometers of green infrastructure-related networks globally by 2030 and creating an additional 65 million kilometers of networks by 2040. While challenging, these goals are essential for ensuring the reliable integration of renewable energy production into national grids, he added.

"This endeavor will require an unprecedented level of cooperation and coordinated action across sectors and regions," the CEO noted.
