Supreme Court: Azerbaijan takes step in environmental law internationally

Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan's Supreme Court Chingiz Asgarov presided over a panel session titled "Climate Change and Courts: Judicial Perspectives on Climate Justice" held on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku, Report informs, citing the Supreme Court.

Chingiz Asgarov informed the event participants about judicial practice in the field of environmental law in Azerbaijan and the steps taken by the country at the international level.

He noted that the right to live in a healthy environment is enshrined in the Azerbaijani Constitution, and the procedures and guarantees for the implementation of this right are defined in relevant bills and other normative legal acts.

Chingiz Asgarov also emphasized the importance of national court judgments and decisions related to the environment and highlighted that international tribunals have contributed to the development of case law in this field.
