The Netherlands continues to make efforts to address the acute freshwater shortage problem, which is also one of the consequences of climate change, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Climate Policy of the Netherlands, Sophie Hermans, said at a high-level meeting within COP29, Report informs.
According to her, countries must unite their efforts to combat the climate crisis, and the Netherlands is ready to make its own contribution to joint climate actions.
"The Netherlands invests in climate projects both domestically and abroad. The EU is a reliable donor, like we are. The Netherlands currently allocates 1.8 billion euros in climate financing per year, both public and private. From our public climate financing, 60% is directed towards adaptation measures. Our financing is focused on the most vulnerable countries. We also lead an international coalition to fulfill the promise made at COP26 on phasing out fossil fuel subsidies. I call on everyone to join us and take the next step in increasing transparency, identifying barriers, and taking national measures," she said.
