Qatari official: 20% of global CO2 emissions come from transportation sector

About 20% of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions come from the transportation sector, Qatar's Minister of Environment and Climate Change Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie stated at the High-Level Round Table on Green Urban Transport organized within the framework of COP29, Report informs.

The minister emphasized that a significant portion of emissions comes from urban transport: "Although solving this problem is difficult, electrification offers a promising path for transportation. Electrification of urban transport not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also improves air quality and brings benefits such as reducing atmospheric pollutants. To address critical issues and thus develop and finance green urban transport, we must align policies between governments, coordinate through an intergovernmental working group, and use innovative financing. We must engage communities to ensure appropriate transport vehicles."

The Qatari official added that ensuring sustainability in urban transport is a crucial issue: "Therefore, we must focus on climate, sustainable design, smart technologies like Artificial Intelligence for managing disruptions, and green infrastructure."
