One of the key pillars of the green mobility approach for Pakistan is the electrification of vehicles, said Abdul Aleem Khan, Pakistani Federal Minister for Communications, Report informs.
Aleem Khan made this statement during the High-Level Roundtable on Green Urban Transport at the Ministerial Meeting on Urbanization and Climate, held as a part of COP29.
"At the national level, Pakistan is committed to creating clear policy frameworks that support green transport initiatives. Our National Transport Policy is aligned with our climate goals, ensuring that every urban transport project is sustainable, low-carbon, and resilient to climate shocks," he emphasized.
The minister added that Pakistan's financial needs for transitioning to a green economy and decarbonization remain high. "The country plans increased access to international climate finance to contribute to the fight against climate change. Pakistan is also considering utilizing the tools provided under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement," he added.
Aleem Khan also pointed out that to help diversify funding sources, Pakistan has already identified market and non-market approaches, including green-blue bonds, carbon pricing instruments, etc.
