One of the main priorities in increasing the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor is increasing vehicle speed and modernizing infrastructure, Mirosław Antonowicz, Chairman of the Organization for Cooperation of Railways (OSJD), told Report.
He noted that Azerbaijan Railways plays a key role in developing the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line, which is an important part of the Middle Corridor.
He emphasized the strategic importance of this corridor for accelerating and simplifying cargo transportation between Asia and Europe, and also outlined priority tasks such as increasing speed and modernizing infrastructure.
The OSJD chairman added that recent meetings focused on issues of simplifying customs and control procedures, implementing digital technologies, and the "single window" system.
Antonowicz noted that financial mechanisms for new projects supporting the development of the Middle Corridor are being developed in cooperation with international financial institutions.
According to him, the development of the Middle Corridor has strategic importance not only for regional but also for global transport networks.
