The Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP 2.0) Leaders Forum was held at COP29 with the support of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).
According to Report, the event, focused on reducing methane emissions and increasing transparency, brought together high-level representatives from SOCAR, TotalEnergies, Italgas Reti, TAP AG, Shell, ADNOC, Petronas, as well as representatives from the European Commission, UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and Environmental Defense Fund (EDF).
The forum was organized to highlight the importance of the OGMP 2.0 initiative and raise awareness about it among a broader audience. SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf, EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson, and UNEP Climate Change Head Dasho Tshering spoke at the opening. The speakers emphasized OGMP 2.0 platform's contribution to improving transparency, sustainability, and operational standards in the global energy sector.
SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf emphasized the company's commitment to emission reduction principles and transparent reporting on a global scale, noting that SOCAR joined the OGMP 2.0 initiative in 2024. He also shared information about the company's goals and activities in emission reduction.
During discussions, participants emphasized the importance of developing methodologies for accurate measurement and monitoring of methane emissions, as well as the benefits of using digital technological tools in this direction.
