Minister: Multi-sectoral national strategies needed to eliminate climate change's health impacts

The timely and effective elimination of climate change's health impacts necessitates the development of multi-sectoral national strategies, Azerbaijan's Health Minister Teymur Musayev said at a COP29 event titled "One Health Approach: Maximizing Cross-Sectoral Cooperation for Human Development" held in Baku, Report informs.

Musayev noted that these strategies should aim to protect public health, ensure adaptation of healthcare systems, and minimize risks associated with environmental changes:

"The development of sustainable healthcare facilities reduces the impacts of climate change. Enhanced surveillance programs are also important to prevent the potential spread of climate-related diseases. The importance of the One Health approach lies in focusing on the health of all species and ecosystems in addressing global health challenges."

The minister emphasized that being prepared for unexpected environmental problems is crucial:

"Climate change affects every aspect of our lives, including health."
