Vietnam calls on developed countries to fulfill their climate commitments, particularly regarding fair and accessible financing for countries in need, Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh said at a high-level meeting during COP29.
According to Report, Le Cong Thanh noted that 2024 could become the warmest year on record. "Droughts, heat waves, floods, and tropical cyclones are occurring in many parts of our world, including Vietnam, and have a significant negative impact on the global economy. Vietnam has integrated climate change response measures and the implementation of our Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) into the Environmental Protection Law and other legal documents, long-term strategic program, and the country's socio-economic development plan," he said.
According to him, Vietnam supports COP29's theme "Solidarity for a Green World," which emphasizes two key pillars: raising ambition and ensuring action.
"Vietnam calls on developed countries to take the lead and fulfill their commitments to achieve zero emissions by 2040. The level of contribution to climate financing should reach $1 trillion per year for the period until 2030, so that developing countries can respond to climate change and implement a fair transition in economy, society, and environment. Financial resources for adaptation should be adequate, transparent, and accessible," he said.
The Deputy Minister also congratulated Azerbaijan on the excellent organization and significant results at COP29.
