Azerbaijan, as known, has been participating in this complex process of climate negotiations from the very beginning, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov told journalists on the sidelines of COP29, Report informs.
"Despite that unlike many other countries, we didn't have two years but only 11 months, we did everything possible to bring the positions of parties closer together and provide a platform for cooperation to achieve important results at this conference," said Bayramov.
The foreign minister expressed optimism, noting the positive result of the first day of COP29, which started on November 11.
"Yesterday, after almost 20 hours of negotiations, we managed to achieve a result on the agenda. It was approved. And another important result of the first day was the agreement on Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement, which, as we all know, has been discussed for many years," he said.
Overall, the Baku conference, COP29, is expected to adopt about 60 potential documents, he noted. "But the most important, of course, is the agreement on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG), which we hope will be achieved," he added.
"There are still, let's say, differences in positions of many countries, many important players. But what we see is that everyone seems determined and takes this issue very seriously. This means that all important players understand their responsibility. Therefore, we are optimistic," concluded Bayramov.
