Jeyhun Bayramov mulls preparations for COP29 with UN official

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Simon Steele, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Report informs citing MFA.

The preparatory work and organizational issues related to the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) were discussed at the meeting.

Bayramov pointed out that, especially in recent times, Azerbaijan took practical steps to protect the environment and transition to renewable energy sources, adding that his country joined several global obligations at the COP28 Summit held last year.

Azerbaijan expressed confidence that COP29 will be held at a high level in terms of content, including organization, and that the legacy of COP29 will contribute to international efforts in combating climate change.

Executive Secretary Simon Steele emphasized that the ongoing preparatory work carried out by Azerbaijan with high professionalism within the framework of hosting COP29 is gratifying. Wishing success to Azerbaijan in the organization of COP29, the executive secretary said that the Secretariat will closely contribute to the work done in this direction.

At the meeting, opinions were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
