Jemimah Njuki: Climate change having serious impact on lives of women, girls

Women are at the forefront of climate action and should be represented in transparency reports, Jemimah Njuki, chief of the Economic Empowerment section at UN Women, said at the event "Gender Equality Day. Gender Aspects in Transparency" within COP29 in Baku, Report informs.

She noted that climate change seriously affects the lives of women and girls, but this impact is often not recognized by society and cannot be quantified.

"According to our forecasts, in the worst climate scenario, by 2050, climate change will push more than 158 million women into poverty and worsen food insecurity for another 236 million women and girls," she said.

Njuki called on the global community to be more involved in gender inequality issues and pay attention to women's representation in key positions.

"Everyone will benefit from this, and we will be able to ensure a sustainable future, including for women," she added.
