Jeffrey Payette: Transmission system development main challenge in shifting to renewables

The main challenge in transitioning to renewable energy sources (RES) is the development of transmission systems, Jeffrey Payette, US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, said, according to Report.

Payette said transporting energy from wind and solar regions requires major investments, which often goes unnoticed.

US investments in the clean energy sector, including through the Inflation Reduction Act and bilateral infrastructure laws, will play an important role in creating sustainable and secure energy systems in the future, noted the guest.

Payette cited the Southern Gas Corridor as an example, noting that this project is the first infrastructure built to supply gas to Europe. He mentioned that this project was implemented as a result of joint US and EU efforts, and similar attention is needed for developing future energy infrastructure.
