The climate conference COP29 is taking place at a critical time and requires urgent action and cooperation to address its consequences, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said during the Leaders Summit at COP29 in Baku.
According to Report, he noted that holding such a conference for the first time in a South Caucasus country - in Azerbaijan, is a significant event for the region: "This event is significant as a South Caucasus country is hosting such an event for the first time. COP29 comes at a critical time, as climate change stands as one of the most pressing issues of our time and requires urgent global action and cooperation to address its consequences."
Kobakhidze expressed regret that ongoing armed conflicts not only lead to serious humanitarian crises but also hinder and slow down efforts to combat global climate change. "The growing impacts of climate change, including rapid glacier melting and sea level rise, are causing serious damage to developing countries' economies and threatening livelihoods, especially vulnerable countries and local communities. Unfortunately, Georgia is no exception and faces severe consequences of climate change."
