A round table discussion on "Information warfare: goals and essence of information attacks against Azerbaijan ahead of COP29" was held at Baku State University (BSU) in cooperation with the Press Council of Azerbaijan.

Report informs that the event was attended by university staff, including faculty members of the journalism department, students, and members of the Press Council.

The Chairman of the Press Council, Rashad Majid, addressed the issue of disinformation and its negative impact on society. "In recent years, this topic has become particularly relevant. The fight against fake news is now necessary, and we strive to actively participate in this process," he emphasized.

The event also featured speeches by university rector Elchin Babayev, deputy executive director of the Media Development Agency Natig Mammadli, editor-in-chief of Sharq newspaper Akif Ashirli, Professor Gulu Maharramli, and dean of the journalism faculty Vugar Ziferoglu.

Elchin Babayev emphasized that holding COP29 in Baku demonstrates high trust in Azerbaijan. Akif Ashirli stressed the need to strengthen news agencies and international cooperation.

Gulu Maharramli stated that disinformation has become a daily problem affecting interstate relations, while Vugar Ziferoglu drew attention to the global significance of the issue and emphasized the importance of media vigilance in the face of increasing disinformation.
