An updated version of data from the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) will be presented at the Baku Climate Conference COP29 in November this year.

According to Report, IMEO co-founder Julia Ferrini said during a panel discussion on the third day of Baku Climate Action Week week that this data will provide a more complete and up-to-date picture of methane emission levels in various countries and economic sectors.

Ferrini noted that the new report will pay special attention to the impact of methane emissions on global climate change, as well as measures to reduce them.

"The Oil & Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0) has become a key element in ensuring transparency and control over emission reduction measures due to its reliability. Compliance with the OGMP gold standard of reporting, in turn, is considered one of the key metrics that organizations such as the International Energy Agency, the Environmental Defense Fund, and many others have included in their reporting mechanisms. This reporting system was presented last week as part of the Climate Week in New York, and the launch of the mechanism was first announced at COP28 with the support of Bloomberg Philanthropies. We are actively working on creating this mechanism, which will allow tracking the fulfillment of the oil and gas industry's commitments under the decarbonization charter and will contribute to achieving global climate goals," she said.
