A report from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was presented on the second day of the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Report informs.
The document emphasizes that refugees are one of the most vulnerable groups in matters related to climate change.
UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi delivered an opening speech at the report presentation in Baku. He noted that for the most vulnerable populations, climate change has become a harsh reality that negatively impacts their lives.
In his opinion, the climate crisis is causing people to move to regions that are already heavily populated with people in distress due to conflicts and lack of security.
"Solutions to climate issues already exist, but we need urgent action. Without proper resources and support, those affected may find themselves in an even more difficult situation," he said.
