EU Commissioner: Looking forward to COP29 in Azerbaijan, much work ahead

COP29 plays an important role in ensuring continuity and building upon the achievements of COP28 in Dubai, the EU Commissioner for Climate Protection, Vopke Hoekstra said during a lecture series on "Global Perspectives" at ADA University on Friday.

According to Report, Hoekstra praised the success of last year's climate conference in Dubai, stating that the conference was remarkable in that agreements on many issues were achieved.

He noted that holding COP29 is particularly important as it is necessary to assess how effectively these agreements are working.

According to Hoekstra, it is crucial to understand if joint efforts can be continued in a spirit of solidarity to address such a critical global issue as climate change.

The Commissioner also mentioned the significance of the Pre-COP29 conference in preparing for the actual negotiations.

He said he is looking forward to COP29 to take part in it adding that much work is ahead.
