Countries and communities should take joint climate action adaptation measures, Umayra Taghiyeva, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, said at the Baku Climate Action Week, Report informs.
According to Taghiyeva, adaptation measures can be implemented in various forms: "This is not only the responsibility of the government but also of citizens and the private sector."
According to her, in 2023, the average temperature in Azerbaijan was 1.9 C higher than the norm.
Taghiyeva stated that the decrease in precipitation over the past ten years has seriously affected agriculture: "We faced an unprecedented number of floods in Azerbaijan. Last year there were 147, and this year it has already exceeded 100. The number of fauna and flora species included in the country's third Red Book has increased."
The deputy minister emphasized that due to climate change, a decrease in the level of the Caspian Sea is also observed: "This causes damage in areas such as culture, tourism, and others."
