Deputy minister: Baku Initiative on Human Development requires multifaceted approach

The Baku Human Development Initiative for Climate Resilience requires a multifaceted approach at the global level, COP29's chief negotiator, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Yalchin Rafiyev said during a joint session on "Baku Human Development Initiative for Climate Resilience" organized within the climate conference, Report informs.

"This initiative is a natural expression of our commitment to human-centered climate action, requiring a multifaceted and comprehensive approach that will strengthen global cooperation across sectors, mobilize investments, and ensure that human development remains a core pillar of our climate strategy. The Baku Initiative is based on the belief that human development and climate action are not separate goals but mutually reinforcing objectives. This includes ensuring equal access to education and skills training for all, with attention to eliminating gender gaps in 'green jobs' opportunities and supporting women's participation in the emerging 'green economy'. The initiative is built around the idea that education, jobs, and skills are not merely support systems but fundamental drivers of climate action in both mitigating climate change and adapting to its inevitable impact," he emphasized.
