In global climate policy discussions, the powers causing this are busy distracting from the real issues. However, those responsible for climate change, rather than the victims of this climate change, are the ones making the rules, said Cameroonian eco-activist Elisabeth Mokogo-Bama, who held an anti-colonialism protest at COP29, Report informs.
Mokogo-Bama noted that those responsible for global warming must pay for what they have done:
"I'm citing the southern countries, especially the Congo Basin in Africa as an example. We must understand that it's one of the largest oxygen basins. However, Congo is a victim of colonialism and is being destroyed by large states and companies. We talk about environmental protection policies, but these rules are not mandatory for companies that benefit from the current situation in Western countries."
The eco-activist noted that the participants of her protest demand climate justice:
"Those who pollute nature must pay the price. But before that, we want sustainable solutions. Let these states participate in decisions about the world's oxygen supply basins. Because the responsibility is placed on us. However, the rules are made elsewhere. We no longer want colonialism in environmental management worldwide."
