Brazil's President: Developed countries bear primary responsibility for climate change

The majority of the responsibility for climate change lies with developed countries that have failed to fulfill their promises to reduce environmental emissions, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil said at the expanded BRICS summit meeting.

According to Report, the Brazilian leader emphasized the need for the global community to achieve the goal of $100 billion per year in climate financing.

"At the upcoming COP30, which will take place in Belém, countries suffering from the consequences of climate change must contribute to limiting harmful emissions," Lula said.

Azerbaijan has been selected to host the global climate conference COP29, while Brazil will host COP30 next year.
