Bojic: Full trust needed for implementation of Article 6 of Paris Agreement

The sixth article of the Paris Agreement enables international cooperation to tackle climate change and unlock financial support for developing countries, former Vice-President of the Framework Convention on Climate Change, and member of the COP Bureau Andrej Bojic told Report.

He noted that the sixth article is the best mechanism, which is currently possible for sustainable adaptation to climate change.

Bojic also noted that despite all the advantages, there are still many problems in implementing this concept.

"The two biggest challenges are the solution to the double counting issue, and the way in which credits from voluntary markets will be used, that is, whether they will be used in the sixth article system if we want to ban 'greenwashing'. And, of course, will the parties agree to full transparency on carbon credit trades under Article 6. For this, we need full trust between the parties," he said.

The expert noted that the main agreement between the parties has already been reached.

"It is that there is no longer any doubt that climate change is happening and that serious action must be taken by all parties. Disagreement exists over the speed of action and responsibility for past climate damage," Bojic noted.
