Small island states are facing the greatest difficulties amid climate issues, Prime Minister of the Bahamas Philip Davis said November 13 at the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Summit within COP29 in Baku.
According to Report, he emphasized that states must unite their efforts in fighting climate change:
"Due to climate change, hurricanes, droughts, and floods are occurring, and this imposes serious obligations on us. We must accelerate the preparation of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) document because when this document is ready, specific obligations will be placed on the international community.
Today, it is important for us to prevent global temperature from rising more than 1.5 degrees. Otherwise, we won't be able to stop this process. Despite the wealth of natural resources, we lack financial means to address climate problems. Therefore, the creation of a loss and damage fund is critically important for us."
