Azercosmos proposes strategies to address climate gaps using space tech

Azercosmos proposes 3 main strategies for addressing climate-related gaps using space technologies, Samaddin Asadov, Chairman of the Board of the Space Agency (Azercosmos) under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, said at the World Space Leaders Summit held as part of COP29, Report informs.

According to him, the first strategy involves strengthening international cooperation among space agencies and organizations to develop common climate strategies. He added that the second is to actively contribute to the Space2030 Agenda goals adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, which include the development of the space economy, space society, access to space, and space diplomacy.

Meanwhile, the third strategy focuses on identifying and implementing practical space-based solutions, establishing a monitoring and reporting mechanism for progress, and ensuring transparency, the chairman noted.

Asadov emphasized that as the world moves towards a sustainable future, space technology has become an indispensable tool for monitoring the planet and responsibly managing its resources.

"As Azercosmos, we are committed to identifying global gaps related to climate change by promoting the use of space technologies and international cooperation," Asadov stated. "We understand that the global space community must unite to adopt sustainable practices and find solutions to the pressing challenges of our time."
