Austrian analyst: COP29 is also economic issue apart from being part of climate change pact

COP29 is not just about the climate change pact, but also the economy, Austrian political analyst Klaus Jurgens said in a statement to Report on the climate conference to be held in Azerbaijan next month.

According to Jurgens, it is crucial to focus on developing countries and those most affected by the negative impacts of global warming in the fight against climate change:

"COP29 is a very important event. First and foremost, this meeting is related to climate change, environment, and other important issues. Such events are very significant regardless of which country they are held in. In the current circumstances, the support of developed countries in this matter is important."

Regarding the event being held in Baku, the analyst believes that the Azerbaijani government will achieve a positive agenda with COP29:

"This international event will show that Azerbaijan is growing and has influence in the global scale. This boosts Azerbaijan's reputation in the world. Of course, this means a great economic and political advantage for Azerbaijan."

Emphasizing that 700 journalists participated in COP28 in Doha, Klaus Jurgens said this requires hotels, infrastructure, cars, drivers, and so on. He believes that Azerbaijan will successfully handle COP29.

"Looking at the COP29 brochure, it's clear that Baku is already prepared for the event. The Azerbaijani government is not sparing its support for the delegations, diplomats, and everyone coming to this event. I think Azerbaijan will use COP29 to tell some countries - 'We are friends anywhere.' And such diplomacy should continue. That is, even if COP29 ends today, I believe this diplomacy will not end," the analyst emphasized.
