On the second day of the Parliamentary meeting, jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Azerbaijani Parliament within the COP29 in Baku, perspectives on using technology to combat climate change were discussed, Report informs.
Michal Nachmany, founder and CEO of Climate Policy Radar, Tatiana Estevez, founder and CEO of Permalution, and Meera Al Suwaidi, member of the UAE Federal National Council, spoke at the session.
The role of technologies, including artificial intelligence, in fighting climate change and exchanging views on new technologies that could influence climate action advancement was discussed. Speakers shared their views on the role of technology, especially AI, in combating climate change. It was noted that the climate issue is one of the most serious global problems of our time.
Melting glaciers, rising sea levels, and increasing extreme weather events threaten the planet's future. The need to ensure fair and equal access to such technologies, especially in developing countries, was emphasized. The session highlighted the need for innovative solutions to overcome this problem.
It was also emphasized that proper and comprehensive use of technology can minimize the impacts of climate change. For this, states, companies, and civil society must work together and take concrete steps to ensure fair access. Session participants noted that humanity's main goal should be building a fair and sustainable future while fully utilizing technology's potential.
During the event, the importance of more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable climate policy was emphasized, and expanded cooperation between different countries in this direction was proposed. The session concluded with discussions with guests who participated in the panel discussion.
