World Bank Group may allocate funds to develop carpet weaving in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan and financial institutions belonging to the World Bank Group have discussed possible areas of cooperation to develop carpet weaving, Report informs referring to Azerkhalcha OJSC.

Emin Mammadov, chairman of the board of the joint-stock company, met with a number of officials and specialists of the World Bank as part of his visit to Washington in connection with an exhibition organized to promote Azerbaijani carpets and carpet weaving traditions in the US.

Mammadov noted that Azerbaijani carpet weaving as an industry is entering a new stage of development. He added that in order to increase competitiveness, the art of carpet weaving, like all other arts, must meet the requirements of the modern world, both in taste and in technique.

Mammadov noted that for this purpose, Azerkhalcha OJSC works with both local and foreign designers, and expressed confidence that this will increase the demand for Azerbaijani carpets not only in traditional markets, but also in new ones.
