WB: Azerbaijan has significant potential for successful transition to green economy

Azerbaijan has significant potential for a successful transition to a green economy, Stefanie Stallmeister, the World Bank Country Manager for Azerbaijan, said at a panel at the Baku Climate Action Week, Report informs.

"Today, human health is one of the key issues, as there is an increase in mortality from non-communicable diseases, including in Azerbaijan. It is also important to pay attention to gender equality. In the country's production sector, the number of men predominates over the number of women, which requires adjustment for a successful transition to sustainable development," she said.

Stallmeister noted that the World Bank supports the program of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population of Azerbaijan aimed at creating new jobs, including green jobs.

This approach will help develop human capital and accelerate the transition to an environmentally sustainable economy, she added.
