SESRIC: Azerbaijan can join ranks of leading countries in halal industry

Azerbaijan can join the ranks of leading countries in the halal industry, Zehra Zumrut Selcuk, Director General of the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), said at the Halal Business and Tourism Forum (AZHAB Forum) in Baku, Report informs.

"Some 94% of halal industries worldwide are concentrated in 10 countries. Considering its vast potential and opportunities, Azerbaijan could join the ranks of these countries. Looking at the issue from a broader perspective, special importance should be given to training courses, webinars, capacity-building programs, creating relevant knowledge infrastructure, and transferring know-how to ensure the development of the halal sector in the near future. At the same time, it would not be correct to view the halal industry solely as an economic factor. It represents and promotes our important customs and traditions, our cultural identity," the SESRIC official noted.
