Malaysian official: Halal industry has become global business direction

The halal industry is no longer exclusive to Muslims and has become an important business direction globally, Mujahid Yusof Rawa, a representative of the Malaysian Prime Minister's office and former minister of religious affairs, said at the Halal Business and Tourism Forum (AZHAB Forum) in Baku, Report informs.

"Malaysia was the first Muslim country to take an initiative in developing the halal sector in 1974. The purpose was to meet the needs of the ummah and transition to more responsible consumption. Today, the halal industry is not only for Muslims. Over time, this term has gained a broader context and has become a significant business area," Rawa emphasized.

According to him, for future development, there is a need for global recognition and acceptance of halal standards, considering that the market volume is estimated at trillions of dollars. "Taking this into account, the concept of green consumption will be the next level in the development of the halal industry," the Malaysian official added.

In conclusion, Mujahid Yusof Rawa expressed confidence that the forum in Baku will be an important step towards further development and global recognition of the halal industry.
