Italians to invest in production of plastic containers in Azerbaijan

"Companies from Turkey, Italy, and other European countries show great interest in the packaging market in Azerbaijan and plan to invest in both this sector and agriculture in the near future," Kamran Hajizadeh, chairman of the board of the Association of Packaging Industry in Azerbaijan, told Report.

"Negotiations have been underway for several years to open an Italian-invested plant to produce plastic containers for packaging agricultural products exported by Azerbaijan and to attract new technologies to the local market. Boxes for agrarian products sent to Russia will be produced, and the necessary equipment will be installed. In general, many local companies have purchased modern European equipment for quick packaging," he noted.

The chairman also added that this year is very productive for the Association: "The Association includes more than 60 companies covering all areas of the packaging industry. The packaging industry is the locomotive of all sectors, from food to construction, from the chemical industry to the service sector. Despite the significant deterioration of economic indicators in all countries, along with the pandemic, there is a boost in the development of the packaging industry in Azerbaijan. The interest of Western investors in the Azerbaijani economy has also influenced the packaging industry in Azerbaijan."
