Cost of Georgia’s cotton imports from Azerbaijan soars

Georgia imported cotton worth $251,000 from Azerbaijan, in the first six half of 2024, Report informs, citing the National Statistics Office of Georgia.

Compared to the corresponding period of 2023, the imports rose by 18 times in value.

With this substantial growth, Azerbaijan has secured the 4th position among the countries supplying cotton to Georgia.

From January through June of this year, the value of Georgia's total cotton imports stood at $2.7 million, marking a 13% decrease from the previous year.

Over the course of six months, Türkiye emerged as the top cotton exporter to Georgia, with exports valued at $1.63 million, followed by China ($312,000), Bulgaria ($256,000), and Italy ($81,500).

Meanwhile, in 2023, Georgia bought cotton, valued at $6.51 million from abroad, of which $693,000 fell to Azerbaijan.
