Azerbaijan resumes banana imports from China

In the first quarter of 2025, Azerbaijan imported 16,845 tons of bananas (fresh, dried, other) worth $15.2 million, marking a 4% drop in volume and an 11% surge in value year-on-year, Report informs, citing the country’s State Statistical Committee.

During this period, Azerbaijan purchased from:

- Ecuador: 16,581 tons (-5%) worth $14.9 million (+9%);

- Costa Rica: 240 tons (+6 times) worth $248,200 (+8 times);

- Egypt: 21.2 tons worth $17,000 (no supply a year ago)

- The Philippines: 1.9 tons worth $11,800 (no supply a year ago)

- China: 1 ton worth $3,500

Azerbaijan has resumed banana supplies from China after a 6-year and 11-month break.

Meanwhile, 98.4% of the 16,800 tons of bananas imported to Azerbaijan in 2024 came from Ecuador.
