Azerbaijan analyzes opportunities for co-op with China along Middle Corridor

Azerbaijan has analyzed the possibilities of further cooperation with China for the effective use of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor), Report informs referring to Azerbaijan’s Economy Ministry.

It was noted that the delegation headed by Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov held a number of meetings during the visit to the People’s Republic of China.

At a meeting with Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China Zheng Shanjie, satisfaction was expressed with the development of ties in various areas, prospects for expanding cooperation in the field of ICT, trade, economic, energy, transport and transit, investment, humanitarian, tourism and other fields were discussed.

It was noted that the political will of and friendship between President Ilham Aliyev and President Xi Jinping are the main driving force behind the development of bilateral cooperation. The high-level relations established between the two countries create great opportunities for strengthening economic partnership.

At the meeting, information was provided on measures to ensure the sustainable development of Azerbaijan, the special significance of the application of green and smart concepts as part of the “National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development: Azerbaijan 2030”, as well as reintegration work being implemented in the territories liberated from occupation, was emphasized. Creating an enabling environment for the transformation of the public sector, improving the quality of ecosystems, sustainable development of business and human capital, the widespread introduction of the digital economy and innovation are also among the priority areas of the “Strategy for Socio-Economic Development for 2022-2026.” All this creates a fertile ground for intensifying cooperation with international partners, including China.

The parties discussed the work carried out on the basis of important agreements reached within the 22nd meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Samarkand. During the meeting, the current state of investment ties was discussed, including potential steps to expand effective cooperation, Azerbaijan’s active position on The Belt and Road Initiative and prospects for cooperation for the effective use of the Middle Corridor.
