Anar Guliyev: Construction firms commit to sustainable urban dev’t in Azerbaijan

Climate-resilient urban development has emerged as a top priority for Azerbaijan, with several construction companies already pledging their commitment to this critical cause, Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan, Report informs.

Speaking at the Baku Climate Action Week, Guliyev emphasized that the increasing urbanization and climate change demand innovative solutions. "Cities must be designed to be sustainable in the future. Urban areas account for 70% of carbon emissions, making sustainable urban planning a crucial aspect of combating climate change," he stated.

Guliyev highlighted, Baku's 2040 Master Plan as an exemplary model for sustainable urban development. "Green buildings and the promotion of renewable energy are among the key elements of comprehensive urban planning. The upcoming COP29, set to take place in Baku this November, will feature discussions on this vital topic.”

The chairman added that the private sector, particularly the construction industry, plays a pivotal role in driving sustainable urban development. Guliyev revealed that "several construction companies have already committed to implementing their expertise in this field."
