President and Founder of the US National Music and Global Culture Society, renowned Azerbaijani pianist, honored artist, winner of international competitions Nargiz Aliyarova performed at a concert in St. Mark's Church, New York City.
The event was dedicated to Black History Month, known as African-American History Month. Azerbaijani piano player Nargiz Aliyarova and American baritone Stephen Salters, the winner of the Belgian Queen Elizabeth singing contest, performed Russian, Azerbaijani, and American compositions. They performed two pieces by prominent Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev, based on poems by Russian poet and playwright Alexander Pushkin.
The musician will have her next concerts at New York's Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Washington's largest hall Kennedy Center.
Following the concert, Aliyarova spoke to Report. The famous instrumentalist said that the organization she leads has been operating in New York for two years: "My main goal is to promote Azerbaijani music to the American community. We have introduced our national music many times before the American audience in the largest halls of New York. Our Society does not only promote Azerbaijani songs, but also world music in the US. This concert also aims to professionally deliver the works of African, American, and Russian composers to listeners. It was an honor to see well-known baritone Stephen Salters professionally performing 'I loved you' ('Mən sizi sevirdim') and 'In the Hills of Georgia' ('Gürcüstan təpələrində') romances. We plan to stage such shows in Boston, Chicago, and Washington as well."
"The American community appreciates creative people. If you are doing nothing, nobody will offer you help. People should be creative and create what they want. Our Society can freely plan music shows, deciding whom to involve and what music to perform," Nargiz said.
