The axe used by Jack Nicholson’s character to chop down the door in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining is up for sale at auction in the USA, Report informs, citing foreign media.
According to the auction organizer, the props are in good condition and will be presented to buyers in a special frame along with footage from the film. The auction will begin on April 20. The auction house plans to get at least $100 thousand for the axe.
The axe was already put up for auction in London in 2019. It was them sold for $200,000.
The Shining was one of Stanley Kubrick’s most successful films, with the axe featuring heavily in its climax as Jack Torrance (Nicholson) stumbles through a snow-covered maze after his son, Danny (Danny Lloyd). Most famously, Jack uses the axe to smash through a wooden door in pursuit of his wife, Wendy, played by Shelley Duvall. He also uses the axe to kill Dick Hallorann (Scatman Crothers).
