Politicians: President Ilham Aliyev's speech resonated with international elite

"President Ilham Aliyev's keynote speech at the Valdai club meeting covered a huge block of problems from the current agenda. And that the President touched upon the Karabakh problem shows that Azerbaijan's diplomacy sees understanding at the international level," political scientist Tofig Abbasov told Report.

According to him, amazing developments related to the region have occurred recently. One of them was Vladimir Putin's visit to Yerevan to attend the summit of the Eurasian Economic Union. And then the Russian President met with President Ilham Aliyev as part of Valdai Club meeting.

"The meeting of the club was held at a very relevant time. If we compare the speech of the Azerbaijani President against the background of those duty passages voiced by Pashinyan recently in Khankandi or in Yerevan, of course, we have the opportunity to see two contrasts, in other words, approaches. One of them (Pashinyan's - ed.) does not reflect anything constructive in itself, does not have any common sense, while the speech of President Ilham Aliyev meets the realities of the time, gives a full transcription of the current situation in our region and unambiguously touches on the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh, which, in view of the intractability and destructiveness of the policy of official Yerevan, is still in a state of stagnation."

"President Ilham Aliyev replied to Pashinyan very capaciously, saying that there can be no doubt that Karabakh is Azerbaijan and highlighted his point with an exclamation mark. On the other hand, this position found support in the statements of the Russian Foreign Minister. In fact, for the first time, Sergey Lavrov confirmed that the collapse of the Karabakh peace process is directly related to the crushing activities of official Yerevan. And the fact that he compared the approaches of Armenia (in relation to the Karabakh settlement-ed.) with the approaches of Albania in relation to the Kosovo conflict, suggests that Moscow equally does not accept these two absolutely unclaimed views on the current state of affairs," Abbasov said.

The expert also noted the importance of the factor of Azerbaijani-Russian relations in the context of regional security and development.

"It acts as a stabilizing and stimulating impulse in the context of regional problems. You know, there is never much security, especially if there is a country like Armenia in this region, which is completely disconnected from integration projects due to its isolation, forced to take destructive actions, the position of Azerbaijan seems not that advantageous, it looks realistic and in demand. Therefore, President Aliyev's speech resonated with the international elite. And one of the main assessments is that he is a leader of a clear purpose, not only thinks globally, but also acts on a large scale for the sake of strengthening security, for the sake of developing integration processes in one of the important, sensitive and communicative active regions of the world," Abbasov added.

The political scientist stressed that " therefore, if we compare the current balance of political forces in the region, Azerbaijan goes by a large margin, while Armenia increases its negative balance unable to withstand competition and continueing to take destructive and destructive actions."

Political analyst Ilgar Valizade told Report that thanks to the "efforts" of the Armenian side and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the discussions around the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement began to shift to a slightly different plane - in the square, in a politically biased environment. According to him, this trend leads the negotiations out of a constructive channel.

"President Ilham Aliyev, speaking at the Valdai expert discussion club, drew attention to the inadmissibility of such actions on the part of Armenia and the inconsistency of statements with the real situation, since it is well known that the problem of Nagorno - Karabakh cannot be solved by force and by  intensifying the act of aggression and occupation," Valizade said.

"Ilham Aliyev, presenting his arguments, appealed to international law, to the position with which all states de facto agree," the expert stressed.

According to the expert, with his statement that "Nagorno-Karabakh is Azerbaijan and an exclamation mark," Aliyev brought the situation in accordance with the realities that exist today in the legal plane.

“Of course, it was important for the experts present in the hall to listen to the reasoned response of the Azerbaijani side to the absurd statements of the Armenian prime minister. This is the balanced reaction of Azerbaijan, in particular, of the head of state, who did not immediately react after the absurd statement of Pashinyan, and  just found time andopportunity to react in such a way that this reaction is real and tangible. This also deserves respect," Valizade said.

The politician emphasized that the president of Azerbaijan "did not yield to the provocation of the Armenian prime minister and did not sort things out at rallies, as Pashinyan did. He simply turned the conversation into the plane of international law."

According to Valizade, an increase in the number of provocations from the Armenian side leads to  military tension, which, at least, is not in the interests of Russia itself and, naturally, threatens with serious negative consequences for the entire region.
