Ihsan Ovut: Expanding halal tourism standards may boost Azerbaijan's position in global market

Islamic countries, including Azerbaijan, can strengthen their position in the global tourism market with the expansion of halal tourism standards, Ihsan Ovut, the Secretary General of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), said at the Azerbaijan Halal Business and Tourism Forum held in Baku, Report informs.

According to Ovut, Azerbaijan's leadership in this field, expanding its tourism potential, and offering products and services in the halal sector in accordance with international standards are of great importance.

"The country is taking important steps in this area, and holding the forum here is an indication of Azerbaijan's steps in this direction," noted the secretary general of SMIIC.

He believes that halal tourism is important not only for tourists traveling following Islamic values but also for providing ethical and safe services on a broader scale: "This creates great potential for tourism destinations."

Ovut stated that SMIIC supports Azerbaijan's efforts in this field and is ready to cooperate closely to ensure wider application of international standards in the halal sector: "By working together, we can ensure the quality and reliability of halal products and services not only among Islamic countries but also in global markets."
