Baku funicular among Europe's best funiculars

The Baku funicular was included in the top 5 of the best funiculars in Europe, Report says, citing the ranking compiled by tourism company Fodors Travel.

The famous Montmartre Funicular located in the North of Paris is in the lead. This funicular can carry up to two thousand passengers per hour.

Buda Hill Funicular in Budapest, Hungary, ranks second. This funicular was built second in Europe.

Turkish underground funicular Tünel opened in 1875, and Kyiv Funicular built-in 1905 are on the third and fourth places, respectively.

Baku Funicular, which was built in 1960 and completely renovated in 2012, ranks fifth on the list. The most modern of this round-up, dating back to a relatively recent 1960 with a complete overhaul in 2012, the funicular—the only one in Azerbaijan—is clean, fast, efficient, and offers spectacular views across the bay and the Caspian Sea.

"It's the best spot in the city," the ranking says.

Funiculars in French Trepo, Lyon, Czech Petrin, Portuguese Lisbon, Swiss Guttanen share different positions on the list.
