Tokayev, Erdogan agree to increase bilateral trade to $10B

Kazakhstan and Turkiye intend to increase the volume of trade to $10 billion, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said after negotiations in a narrow format with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Report informs referring to Kazakh media.

“Our goal is to bring trade to $10 billion. Turkiye has invested $4.35 billion in Kazakhstan over the past 15 years. Our country has invested $1.13 billion in Turkiye. Turkiye is one of the ten biggest investors in Kazakhstan,” Tokayev said.

He also stressed that Turkiye has made great strides in political and socio-economic development. All the agreements reached in Astana will give a new impetus to the priority areas of cooperation, the president added.

Also in his speech, Tokayev called on Turkiye to participate in the development of the Trans-Caspian corridor.

“The transit route plays an important role in increasing the overall bilateral trade potential. We call for the development of the Trans-Caspian corridor to reduce transport costs and reduce delivery times. Today we exchanged views on this issue, and we have the same point of view,” Tokayev said.

He reminded that this year the issue of the Trans-Caspian corridor was discussed in Baku, and Tokayev proposed to hold the next meeting in Aktau.
