Russia’s Dagestani parliament elects new head of republic

The deputies of the Dagestani People Assembly have elected Sergei Melikov as the head of the republic.

Report says that 82 out of 90 deputies of the People's Assembly voted for Sergei Melikov, he was sworn in and officially took office.

On October 5, 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted the resignation of Dagestani President Vladimir Vasilyev and appointed him his adviser. Sergei Melikov was then named interim head of Dagestan.
