First female speaker of Senate appointed in Uzbekistan

Tanzila Narbayeva was elected on June 21 as Speaker of Senate of Uzbek Parliament to be the first woman to take this post in Uzbekistan.

Before this role, Narbayeva was Deputy Prime Minister - Chairperson of the Women's Committee.

“She is distinguished by decency, honesty and, most importantly, love of country. On the eve I appointed her a senator and promoted to the post of head of the upper house of parliament," Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said addressing the 20th plenary session of the Senate.

81 senators voted for Narbayeva, two abstained, there were no votes “against”.
