US evacuates 240 citizens from Wuhan

A plane that left a group of American citizens, including diplomats, from China's Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, landed at the airport in Anchorage, Alaska, Report informs citing RIA Novosti.

The Wall Street Journal reported that a US government chartered a plane to fly out diplomats from the US Consulate in Wuhan, where the latest coronavirus outbreak started, and other US citizens. The flight will make a refueling stop in Alaska before flying on to Ontario, California.

According to local media, the flight carrying 240 Americans landed at anchorage international airport on Tuesday at 21: 30 local time (10: 30 Baku time). All passengers were screened for signs or symptoms of respiratory illness.

Earlier, CNN reported that Americans removed from Wuhan on arrival in California could be isolated for a period of three days to two weeks.

According to the latest data, the new virus has sickened 5,974 people, while 132 died. Moreover, further 9,239 suspected cases have been reported. Currently, another 59,990 people who had close contact with the sick are under observation.
