Serbia and the United States have signed a memorandum of understanding on energy infrastructure and regional energy security, Report's Balkan bureau informs, citing the Serbian Foreign Ministry.
Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić met with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau as part of the first Strategic Dialogue between Belgrade and Washington.
Before the meeting, Serbia and the United States signed memorandums of understanding on the Fulbright Academic Exchange Program, as well as on energy infrastructure and regional energy security.
Đurić said Serbia attaches great importance to cooperation with the United States in the energy sector. He noted that the issue was the main topic of the first session of the Strategic Dialogue and said developing energy cooperation was an important part of overall relations between the two countries.
Speaking about economic cooperation, the minister said Serbia sees significant potential for increasing US investment and expanding the activities of American companies, particularly in infrastructure.
He noted that US companies are already involved in several major infrastructure projects in Serbia, including the Morava Corridor, one of the country's most important projects aimed at modernizing transport infrastructure.
Đurić also emphasized the importance of US support for maintaining stability in the Balkans and said Serbia was ready to contribute to this effort.
